Samsung UN32H5203 Review

Packaging is very well done and the various included items are bagged or wrapped. Quick start guide is excellent and well laid out using a lot of diagrams and pictures.

Once you are ready to turn on the TV Samsung UN32H5203 for the first time, you are presented with about an eight step wizard that is probably best-in-class. It clearly takes you through the process with text, diagrams, and interactive questions. There were three hiccups for me though during the installation/setup. One, pushing in the IR cable was difficult enough that I thought I might have the wrong port and/or could be breaking something. Eventually I figured out to push it in really hard. Two, the IR setup did not work with my DirecTV HR24-200 for some reason. And three, I am not exactly sure what happened with my TV getting an update over the internet. I thought the TV may had tried after I setup the wireless Internet, but then it seemed to try again in a later step. After the TV spent about five minutes processing something, it came back to tell me that I was already up to date. I'm okay with these hiccups because rather than use the Samsung remote with DirecTV, I prefer it the other way around by using the DirecTV remote with the Samsung UN32H5203.

One big complaint, worthy of deducting one star from the review, I have is that you have to register with Samsung in order to get some of the apps like YouTube. Besides being annoying to do so, I think about people less technical like my parents. The quick setup doesn't even make it apparent that you are missing apps or that other apps are available -- you have to find out in the larger manual. Further, for the less technical, the registration process isn't exactly easy and includes a 359 page end-user agreement plan! This has gone too far. I'd rather just have the most popular apps available at the start and avoid this whole registration process. Having a less intuitive registration process is a shame given how easy the setup wizard was Samsung UN32H5203.

Remote is well laid out and includes a special "Smart Hub" and eManual button which is convenient. Picture quality seems excellent, and menu speed is not super fast but no slow either. TV start up time is fast, but the Internet portion takes about 1-2 minutes to be accessible for me which is probably slower than industry average. Despite the numerous complaints, for the price and all the features you get, this is a pretty good setup once you get past the hurdles of registration and setup.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Received camera body from Amazon on 3/23. Lots of new features (5D2 manual is 259 pages; 5D3 manual is 403 pages). For the work I do, I was looking for two improvements over the 5D2: Ability to bracket more than 3 shots and much lower noise. The first wish was granted. As you probably know, the 5D3 does 7 exposures. Nikons do 9, but 7 is almost always enough. Those who need more will probably have a Promote remote anyway. Noise? Well, the 5D3 images are cleaner but I wouldn't say dramatically so. With the default noise settings and long exp NR set on, I'd say it's 1 to 1.5 stops better than the 5D2. Now, with a little Noiseware or other NR, you can get very clean images at 12800 with very little loss of detail so I don't consider this a problem. I guess it was unrealistic to expect the 5D3 to match the very low noise of my D700 but it would have been nice.

It's true that nearly every feature on the 5D3 is an upgrade over the 5D2. Not all of these will result in better images but it's fair to say that the entire "feel" of the 5D3, the layout, viewfinder, displays are all nicer than the 5D2. The two things that may be game changers, IMO, are the shutter and the AF. If you haven't heard and felt the shutter on the 5D3, you're in for a treat. It isn't just quieter; there is much less kick from the mirror. Add the "silent" mode and, wow. I would not be surprised to see signs in the future that say "Please set your camera to silent mode". As for AF, I never had a problem with the AF on the 5D2 so I'm less impressed here. But if you shoot moving subjects, the 5D3 has it all--predictive, wrap around, sequential, selective. The manual devotes 45 pages to setting autofocus.

A small thing that I've been waiting for, a dual axis electronic level is wonderful. For some time, digital SLRs have had an "artificial horizon" that tells you if you are tilting the camera to the left or right. That's nice but in almost all imaging software, rotating an image takes just a second. What these left/right levelers don't tell you is if you are tipping the camera up or down which can be a real pain with a super wide lens. Well, problem solved with the 5D3.

The in-camera HDR Canon EOS 5D is a mixed bag. Output is jpeg only and even at that, it takes awhile for the 5D3 to register the images. (This could be my cards which are Lexar UDMA 400x & Sandisk Extreme IV). Anyhow, it's a fun feature. This brings me to yet another interesting feature. Since the 5D3 has two cards (CF + SD) you can record different file types to each card. In other words, you could have a RAW-only card and a JPEG-only card. I haven't tried this but I presume this would mean that you could shoot everything RAW except in-camera HDRs which, being jpegs, would end up on the other card. I get requests for jpegs so now I can put them on one card while keeping an all-RAW card for myself. You can also have redundant cards for backup, sequential for extra capacity, etc. As with the autofocus options, the possibilities are endless!

So, to summarize. Pros: Better AF, 100% viewfinder with electronic grid (no more screens), better LCD, faster drive and processor, fabulous shutter/mirror, 7-stop bracketing, 2-axis level, somewhat lower noise and thus somewhat cleaner images vs. 5D2, two card slots, uses same batteries as 5D2. Cons: Still no built-in flash (yes, it's very handy), in-camera HDR so-so, mode knob still feels flimsy (and it locks now, so be careful). All in all, this is a very nice, refined camera and anybody trading up from a 5D2 will be happy. And if you do get a 5D3, the person getting your 5D2 will be happy as well.

Just a footnote. One thing that comes through loud and clear from these reviews is how very different people's needs are and how differently they use a camera. I can only explain how a product meets or fails to meet my needs. I would not dream of saying you do/don't need this feature or "read and decide" as if I was some sort of oracle. You know what is or is not important to you and how much you're willing to pay for it. The web has made everybody a professional and an expert but when it's your money, the only expert is you.

Amazon Fire Phone

Amazone Fire phone Reviews

For me, this phone works fantastic. There are lots of other reviews on here about the features, so I will skip that.
Now, I am using this on Straight Talk, so I will go in to a little about that.

I purchased the Straight Talk ATT Nano Sim directly from the Straight Talk website. Now, this is important, you need to set your new Fire Phone up and the account on Straight Talk BEFORE you install the Nano Sim.
I set the phone up first. So charge your phone and then turn it on. After you have followed the on screen instructions and configured your phone, you need to go into SETTINGS ---> WI-FI & Networks then down to Change your mobile network operator, then go to Access Point Name, from here you can select or add your APN.

If you are setting up a new account, set it up now.
After that all you need to do is follow the activation instructions from your network provider.

Also Important, use the Sim Card number on the red sheet with the Nano Sim Card provided by Straight Talk, you Do Not use your phones IMEI Number.

Be warned, it might take up to a day to activate! I already had a number on Straight Talk and it took 12 hours for the number to port.
If porting a number with Straight Talk, do not install the Nano Sim until your old phone has stopped working on the network, after that you can install the Nano Sim and then turn your phone on.

When installing the Nano Sim, it comes with a sim port tray tool, but you can use a paper clip. Bend the very tip down of the tool or paper clip into an L shape, carefully insert into to the tray, and slowly and carefully pull out. Put the Sim Card on to the tray, matching the notch. Gold Contacts face down.
Now, very important, when inserting the tray with sim back into the phone, Hold the very top of the sim card down when slowly sliding back in so the Sim Card does not pop up. Click it into place. After that, you can turn on your phone and are ready to go!

I have had no problems with sending/receiving text messages, multi-media messages and have been able to use the web when I am off the Wi-Fi network. My phone shows that I am on the 4G LTE and it is running smoothly and fast.

I personally have no problems with not having access to the Google Play Store, all the apps I personally need are on Amazon. But if you do have a problem with that, take a read at some of the other posts regarding installing the play store on your phone.

Personally, and this is me, I like the layout of the phone screen. It does take a bit getting use to, but watch the Fire tour video a couple of times and you will have it down.

I have only 2 gripes, the first one is that the screen rotation lock/unlock is not easily accessible, as you have to go in to Settings ----> Display to lock and unlock the rotation. The second one is that the earbuds are not very comfortable, they are nice, but are a fixed size and made of hard plastic, so a person that has a smaller ear opening cannot comfortably use them.

Other then that, I am very happy with my Amazon Fire Phone. Perfect companion to my Kindle, Fire Tablet, Fire TV and my Echo! Plus now I do not have to pack around a larger device as all my Amazon media is on this phone now!

All in all, since I already use Amazon for all my online shopping needs, I am very happy with the Fire Phone.

Samsung UN75F6300 75-Inch

After owning a 32" Dell flat screen for nearly a decade, it was seriously time for an upgrade. I had absolutely no interest in 3D capabilities but did want to enter the smart TV age. After months of research and waiting for a price break during the holiday, I committed to Samsung's UN55F6300 and could not be any more satisfied.

Upon delivery, the television was inspected and found to have arrived in factory condition. The only bit of assembly required was installing the base to the monitor and that, in itself, was super simple.

When I turned it on, I went through the steps required to setup today's smart TV functions and, I must say, Samsung has done a great job creating a user interface that is easy to use understand and even easier to use. Within minutes, I was enjoying some high definition programming in absolutely stunning picture!

The Samsung UN75F6300 75-Inch, in its own right, is very sleek. The bezel is thin with a nice tint that gives the picture a good border that is none-too-large. The stand provides the ability to rotate the horizontal angle of the screen and provides a study base that does not feel flimsy at all.

Samsung's smart TV interface has been widely recognized as one of the best in the industry and provides quick access to various applications which turn this television into an even greater entertainment experience - none of which do you have to ever use or interact with if you do not desire.

For picture quality, I did a simple search on the internet to find adjustment settings that have been recommended by professionals who have the equipment to properly fine tune a television. Making the adjustments correlate with the suggested settings was a breeze and, in my opinion, really did enhance the viewing quality. For gamers, the 'game' setting can be set for a specific input source and will maintain that setting with no need to repeatedly flip back and forth when you switch between TV and gaming. That is: all settings correspond to the input source you have selected, providing the opportunity to create an array of picture settings, depending on the input device you are using.

The remote - although it lacks the neat stylis-like feature of the more expensive models - does what you need it to do. Unfortunately, the backlighting for the button could be brighter; but, when your eyes are glued to the beauty of the television screen, the dim yellow hue of the remote is the last thing you will be thinking about. Quick access to Netflix and Amazon on demand features allows you to access your video libraries at the click of a button.

The Wi-Fi receiver for this television seems to operate wonderfully. My television is downstairs in a partially underground, spit-level home while my wireless router resides upstairs - the television picks up on the signal and maintains a connection without any troubles.

While I wish there was an older RCA input for this television, there is an adequate amount of HDMIs and one component input for an assortment of DVD/Blu-ray, video gaming and other devices.

Although I did test sound through the onboard speakers to ensure they worked, I did not spend much time evaluating their quality before hooking up my sound system. Sound through the digital output is crisp, clean and in sync with the picture.

Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this television and have expectations that it will last many, many years in our household. With the Samsung name, I have come expect quality and this set fulfills all of those expectations and then some.

If you are in the market for a television, have no need for 3D features, and do not wish to sacrifice picture quality at the expense of a smaller price tag, I encourage you to consider this television and to take advantage of Amazon's excellent delivery service.

LG Electronics 55LB7200 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D Smart LED

LG Electronics 55LB7200 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D Smart LED

I returned the 2nd one I got because of the light bleed and creaking noise when I was cleaning the screen. I got the LG 60LB7100 and this one is awesome. There is no vertical lines on mine, just a hardly noticeable vertical line on the left hand side. I don't think it is the vertical lines everybody is talking about because this is on the very edge of the screen.

Hardly no DSE(Dirty Screen Effect) I cant believe it, I thought the LG 55LB7200 was great this one I dont see anything, I have the NHL and golf on and dont see anything. WOW!!!

The only downside is the 60LB7100 does have a WiFi issue. A lot of other people are having the same WiFi issue. It connects but slow connection and buffers a lot on Netflix, especially with 3D.

Update 5/8/14

Well I exchanged my 55LB7200 with another one because of the small crack in the top right corner. Now this one has a very bad light bleed in the same corner. Also when I was cleaning it in that corner it was making a creaking noise. I chatted with LG and they are going to send out a tech to look at it.

Also this panel has the vertical lines on both side pretty noticeable while my first one was hardly noticeable. This was made in April while my first one was March.

Edit,

Well I thought about it and set up to have the Tech come look at it. I called the tech and he said I should just send it back to Amazon and get a new one. I guess some of these tech work at local TV shops here and he said that is what he tells all of his customers that buys TV from them.

So, I chatted with Amazon and now, I am getting the 60LB7100. I hope its better than the 55LB7200. I still dont know if there will be a real big difference because of the model numbers. I know the 7200 has no bezel and it has a subwoofer.

I really love this TV but this replacement one I got is pretty bad. I hope the 60LB7100 is better. Good luck all of you. I will keep all of you up to date.

Original review

This TV is awesome and I love it. Mine came with a very small crack in the top right hand corner out of the viewing area but I am going to exchange it when they get more in. Amazon also offered me $300 off the 60LB7100 if I wanted that one but I really like this one.

The picture is very clear and beautiful. All of the features are nicely implemented. I really love this TV. This is Direct-Lit LED which mean the LED's are behind the panel and not on the edges(Edge-Lit). There is not clouding, light bleed or anything like that. The only thing I see is there should be more local dimming zones. I think there is 12. There is 2 columns and 6 rows. A good example is when credits scroll up you can see the zones and since the credits are in the middle the you can see the light coming across the screen.

The problem I am having is when there is a dark scene the screen dims very dark and you can barely see anything. I posted a video on youtube and I will provide the link. I calibrated the TV and turned off energy saving and I also tried to turn off local dimming but it is still there.

Global dimming is the problem. It adjusts the brightness regardless of energy settings. There is no way to turn this off. This is a stupid feature, I was reading and it has been a problem in the last 2 years and everybody hates it.

When playing PS3 or PS4 game and you have a dark scene you will not be able to see anything. LG dropped the ball on this. I am very disappointed because everybody complains about it but LG does not do anything about it. They will not fix it.

LG Electronics 55EC9300

LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch OLED TV redefines the TV experience again. I have seen TVs from CRT black and white to LED TVs. I played around and watched on this OLED TV and it blew me away. The blacks are blacker and the color saturation is incredible. Talk about thin TVs. This is as thin as smartphones (only 4.3mm thick at its thinnest point ) and lightweight. I recently purchased LG's refrigerator and like their design. OLED has several advantages, one of them being no backlighting required. This means no light leakage. The movies appear gorgeous. Time to refresh is also in microseconds. Infinite contrast ratio! Contrast ratio measures the range from the brightest whites on the screen to the darkest blacks. Another great advantage is the viewing angle in OLED TVs, Typically in any living rooms, we have TV at one location and you may be seeing it in front of it, on dining tables, from kitchen etc. Typically viewing angle becomes less and less at different angles. LG ensures a great viewing angle.

webOS is awesome. At one point I had 3 HP Touchpads running webOS and Android Ice Cream Sandwich. webOS was very sleek and one of the best OS. Unfortunately HP after acquiring could not take it anywhere and LG acquired them. I never imagined LG will have them on TV. They have executed very well and included a simple user interface. TVs need to be simple and not like VCRs! Navigating to apps using included remote was a breeze on this LG 55EC9300.

This TV has several HDMI and USB interfaces. This makes it easy to connect camcorders, tablets, hard disks. OLED TV will redefine the TV landscape in next 3-5 years. LG has taken a big leap forward and I love their innovation with software using webOS.

Samsung UN85S9 85-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV

Samsung UN85S9 85-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV

Samsung’s new ultra HD model UN85S9 has conquered the market already. The frame is what makes the UHD monitor unique at first look itself. Samsung call it “Timeless Gallery”. The frame allows the monitor to be tilted and moved so that you can easily place it according to your comfort. The box contains one-connect box (act as the TV’s connection bay), connecting cable, 4 active 3D glasses and touchpad remote.

Speaking of the display, the full array of LED backlight which completely cover the LCD panel and broken down to numerous zones provide extra ordinary deep black levels and superior shadow detail. The anti-glare coating provided is of premium quality so that you will not see any reflection or finger prints or other smudges on the screen. The excellent brightness and black levels make Samsung S9 superior than its competitors.

Another feature worth discussing is the ability of UN85S9 to upscale Full HD and lower resolution contents to ultra HD. You can view every movie and shows in 4K resolution no matter what. The connections available are 4 HDMI ports, 3 USB ports, component and composite video in, optical and analog audio out and a LAN port. The S9 also has a built-in camera for your video calls. A mic is provided for voice recognition and search command. Another new technology is Samsung’s S-recommendation function which monitors all you “TV activity” and recommends you contents to watch. If you are rich enough to buy this, don’t think. Just go and grab it!

Samsung UN105S9 Curved 105-Inch 4K Ultra HD

Samsung UN105S9 Curved 105-Inch 4K Ultra HD

Now, if you are ready and willing to really splurge to get the ultimate Curved 4K UHD TV experience, then Samsung UN105S9 might just be the one for you. At massive 105 inches and a whopping $120,000 this TV is not for the faint of the heart.

Those who’ve bought it seem to absolutely love it – just read these raving reviews from Amazon Customers (Warning: Be prepared for a good dose of humor!).

Samsung UN105S9 Curved 105-Inch 4K Ultra HD

Here is a good one:

“…This TV is top of the line, the cream of the crop, the noodles in my spaghetti. Despite me having to sell both my cars, my house, and my right kidney to afford this thing I’m very happy with my purchase. I was on the fence at first about buying this, but the Free Shipping really sealed the deal…”

Samsung UN105S9  comes with all the bells and whistles you can expect from a top-of-the-line TV. You get your web-integrated smart functionalities, voice and motion control, LED backlight, Smart Touch Control, Universal Remote Control and plenty of ports and inputs/outputs.

Since this is a 3D TV, it also comes with 2 Pairs 3D Active Glasses.

The Smart Hub organizer divides your entertainment into 5 panels, to help you seamlessly navigate your favorite content.

The Auto Depth Enhancer analyzes regions of each image and automatically adjusts the contrast. As a result, everything you watch has incredible detail and appears more natural.

UHD Upscaling upconverts SD, HD or full HD content to near UHD-level picture quality – so whatever you watch, you are getting the best viewing experience.

UHD Dimming precisely scans various “zones” across the entire image and adjusts brightness to deliver deeper darks and brighter whites for a crystal clear picture delivery.

The PurColor technology allows the TV to express all shades of color as nature intended for optimal picture performance.

The Quad Core Plus processor on Samsung UN105S9 speeds up your Smart Hub experience. It basically speeds up everything and makes your TV much faster and responsive.

The Quad Screen feature lets you transform your TV into four screens that can access live TV, sports, video clips and the web all at once. This feature can come in pretty handy if you are learning something visual. For example, you can watch your favorite golf tournament on one screen and watch a video tutorial to master your swing on another.
